Church of the Dormition in Łódź, Eastern Orthodox church in Bałuty-Doły, Łódź, Poland.
The Church of the Dormition is an Eastern Orthodox church built from red brick with multiple domes and tall windows defining its exterior. An ornamental entrance portal and decorative details throughout reflect traditional Eastern Orthodox architectural style.
Construction was completed in 1884 following an assassination attempt on Tsar Alexander II. Local industrialists Karl Scheibler and Juliusz Heinzl provided financial support for the project.
The interior features a large iconostasis displaying Byzantine and Russian artistic styles that dominate the worship space. Stained glass windows made by Adolf Seiler's workshop in Wrocław fill the church with colored light.
Access to the church requires arranging a visit in advance with the parish priest. The building has seating capacity for around 900 people and functions as an active place of worship.
Recent restoration work preserved the church's original color scheme and decorative gilding from the 1800s. This careful maintenance allows visitors to see how the space actually appeared in the 19th century.
