Brewery No. 1 in Łódź, Gothic Revival brewery in Середмістя-Схід district, Łódź, Poland
Brewery No. 1 in Łódź is an industrial complex of brick buildings in the Śródmieście-Wschód district, built for beer production in the 19th century. The facades are made of red brick in a Gothic Revival style, and the site still holds original production equipment.
The brewery was founded in 1867 by Karol Gottlob Anstadt and registered as a joint-stock company in 1888, becoming one of the main operations in the region. After being nationalized in 1945, it continued under the name Browary Łódzkie.
The red brick buildings reflect the influence that German-speaking entrepreneurs had on the industrial city of Łódź in the 19th century. Walking through the complex today, visitors can still see how production and daily city life were once tightly connected.
The site sits in the center of Łódź and is easy to reach on foot or by public transport. The complex covers several buildings, so allow enough time to walk through and check which areas are open before arriving.
The Gothic Revival style was rarely used for industrial buildings in Poland and was far more common in church architecture of the same period. Choosing it for a brewery shows how much the owners wanted the complex to project a sense of permanence and ambition.
