Grzybowo, Archaeological museum in Grzybowo, Poland
Grzybowo is an archaeological site with a museum pavilion and reserve located north of Poznań that displays medieval objects from a fortified settlement. The place includes reconstructed ramparts, an entrance gate, and exhibition spaces showing the layout and material remains of this early settlement.
The settlement developed during the formation of the early Piast state in the Middle Ages and was later documented by German explorer Wilhelm Schwartz in the 19th century. This early documentation helped preserve the archaeological importance of the site for understanding Polish history.
The reserve hosts regular demonstrations where visitors can watch people perform historical crafts, fighting methods, and daily activities from early Piast settlements. These living displays show how people actually lived and worked in this place over a thousand years ago.
The site has different areas to explore on foot, including the museum exhibition and reconstructed fortification that are easy to reach. School groups and visitors can use special learning facilities and spaces that help make the history of the place clearer.
The entrance gate was reconstructed following principles of medieval Polish defensive architecture and shows what these structures actually looked like. The gate offers a rare look at the practical design decisions made for early fortifications.
