Nature reserve Jezioro Francuskie

Nature reserve Jezioro Francuskie is a protected woodland area near Ostróda containing a lake surrounded by old beech forest and diverse habitats. The site features walking paths through varied landscapes where visitors encounter different plant and animal species at each turn.

The area became a protected reserve in 1963 and takes its name from a meeting during the Napoleonic Wars between French soldiers and local residents. This encounter at the lake left an imprint on the region's local history.

The protected area serves as an educational site where visitors learn about ecological conservation while exploring marked nature trails through diverse landscapes.

You can reach the reserve through walking paths starting from Wysoka Wies village and water visibility is best in October for observing wildlife. The trails are well marked to guide visitors through the different natural areas.

Jezioro Francuskie sits at 285 meters elevation and stands as the highest lake in northeastern Poland. This characteristic makes it a distinctive destination for those interested in elevated landscapes.
