Nature reserve Jeziorsko, Nature reserve near Turek, Poland
Nature reserve Jeziorsko lies along the shores of the Jeziorsko Reservoir on the Warta River, near the town of Turek in central Poland, and protects wetland habitats used by water birds. Shallow water zones, reed beds, and flooded meadows make up most of the protected area around the reservoir.
The Jeziorsko Reservoir was created in the 1980s by damming the Warta River, which changed the local landscape and created new wetland habitats. The nature reserve was established shortly after to protect the bird populations that quickly colonized these new environments.
The reserve is well known among birdwatchers, who gather along the reservoir shores to spot passing migrants. Spring and autumn draw the largest groups, when the open water and shallow banks attract the widest variety of birds.
The reserve has marked observation points and paths along the shores that give good views over the shallow water areas. Visitors should plan for quiet movement and neutral clothing to avoid disturbing the birds.
Although the reservoir is artificial, it has become one of the most important stopovers for migratory birds in Poland, with over 200 bird species recorded in a single year. Some of these species had rarely or never been seen in this part of the country before the reservoir was created.
