Nature reserve Kornuty, Nature reserve in Low Beskids, Poland.
The Nature reserve Kornuty is located in the Low Beskids and features rock formations up to 10 meters high made of magura sandstone. These sandstone formations create platforms, towers, and rocky thresholds along the Magura Wątkowska ridge.
The reserve was officially established in 1953 following earlier efforts by the Polish Tourist Association in Gorlice, which purchased land for conservation in 1938. The formal designation ensured the geological features would be protected for future generations.
The name Kornuty comes from the Vlach language and refers to the horn-shaped appearance of the rocks that were once visible from distant meadows in the area.
The reserve is accessible via marked trails starting from Bartne village and leading through the natural landscape. A hike on the yellow-marked path to the trail intersection typically takes about 1.5 hours and provides access to the main rock formations.
The Mroczna Cave within the reserve extends for about 200 meters, making it one of the longest underground passages in the Low Beskids. This hidden cave is a special feature that many visitors overlook.
