Schronisko na Starej Polanie, Mountain shelter in Karkonosze Mountains, Poland.
Schlingelbaude is a wooden mountain shelter located at 800 meters on the northern slopes of Karkonosze. The building provides lodging and meals for hikers and mountaineers passing through the region.
The shelter began in the 1690s when it housed workers building the Laurentius Chapel on Sniezka peak. It gradually transformed into a tourist destination as mountain travel grew.
The shelter took its current name in 1951 to honor Bronisław Czech, a Polish ski jumper who advanced winter sports in the region. Today visitors sense this sporting legacy as they stop here during their mountain journeys.
The shelter sits along several marked hiking trails and serves as a good starting point for exploring the mountain region. Visitors should prepare for changing weather and wear proper footwear.
The shelter marked the shift from traditional livestock herding to tourism-based economy in the mountains. This transition brought economic changes to local communities over several decades.
