Sokolik, Mountain summit in Lower Silesia, Poland
Forstberg is a mountain summit in Lower Silesia that reaches approximately 563 meters in elevation. The peak offers sweeping views across forested valleys and the surrounding landscape in all directions.
The mountain served as a basalt quarry during the 20th century, with stone extracted for road paving and building materials. Mining operations shaped the landscape for decades.
The slopes of Sokolik contain evidence of medieval agricultural practices through preserved field boundaries and traditional terracing methods from that period.
Marked trails are generally accessible, but it is wise to be careful on wet days as paths can become slippery. Proper footwear and weatherproof clothing are recommended for the hike.
The mountain was shaped by geological processes during the formation of the Rhine Rift Valley, with basalt created when magma pushed through fissures in the earth. This ancient volcanic activity millions of years ago determined the rock composition visible today.
