Bismarck tower in Okonek, Monument tower in Okonek, Poland
The Bismarck tower in Okonek is a red brick structure rising approximately 20 meters above Tecławska Hill. The building features a pyramidal base, rectangular shaft, and crenelated crown that form its distinctive profile.
The tower was erected on April 1, 1908, to commemorate soldiers who fell in the Prussian-Austrian and Prussian-French conflicts. It was completed and opened to the public on August 23, 1908.
The tower was part of a network of roughly 240 structures built between 1896 and 1914 across German territories to honor Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. These buildings served as regional monuments and showed public reverence for the departed statesman.
The monument sits about 1 kilometer from Okonek center and is freely accessible from the outside. Visitors can view the brick architecture and decorative details at their own pace.
Granite stones of different colors are built into the tower's construction, giving the exterior a multi-toned appearance. Originally a fire bowl burned in the crown and was lit during major celebrations.
