Castle in Warta Bolesławiecka is a medieval fortress built on an artificial hill within a stream valley, with sandstone walls reaching about 5 meters high. The site still preserves its original double moat system that once surrounded the structure for additional defense.
The fortress was built in the fifteenth century and first served as a residence for Knight Burgold von Stiebitz before passing to the Zedlitz family in 1426. It gradually lost importance after the sixteenth century when its owners built a Renaissance manor house nearby and moved away from the castle.
The castle shows how medieval nobles in the region built their strongholds with its four-sided layout and earth ramparts for defense. Walking around the site, you can see these protective features that shaped daily life for the people who lived here.
The castle ruins are located near the Golden Bike Route and can be visited throughout the year without any entrance fee. The gentle slope of the artificial hill makes it easy to walk around and explore the structure and the surrounding moats.
