Ujazd Castle

Ujazd Castle is a stone fortress positioned on elevated ground with four corner towers and thick defensive walls enclosing a rectangular courtyard. The structure maintains its original layout and shows the standard design of medieval fortress construction.

The fortress was built in the Middle Ages as a defensive structure and later served in the 17th century as a residence for the bishops of Wrocław who governed the surrounding region. This shift from military stronghold to administrative center marks a significant change in its purpose.

The fortress displays features of Polish medieval military design, with Renaissance additions visible in window frames and decorative portal details that show how the structure evolved over time. These layers reflect the different periods when people modified and expanded it.

The site provides designated parking areas and information panels in several languages to help visitors understand different sections. Marked pathways guide you through the structure, making it easy to explore the various parts.

The fortress features a network of underground passages connecting different chambers, allowing for discreet movement between various parts of the stronghold. These hidden routes were an important part of the defensive strategy.
