Wawel Clock Tower, Gothic clock tower at Wawel Castle, Kraków, Poland

The Wawel Clock Tower rises to 231 meters with limestone ashlars at its base and red brick construction in its upper sections.

Construction started in the 14th century under King Kazimierz the Great, but work halted at 16 meters until canon Jan Salomonowicz completed it in 1522.

The tower functions as both a timekeeping structure and a defensive fortification, with two clock faces displaying time on its western and northern walls.

Visitors can climb 137 steps to reach the top, with admission costing 6 PLN for adults and operating from April through October.

The clock mechanism requires manual winding every two days, taking ten minutes to raise three separate weights that control different timekeeping functions.
