Water tower in Ełk

The water tower in Ełk is a brick structure with multiple floors that once distributed water to the city and now operates as a museum. Inside, exhibitions showcase the history of water systems, firefighting equipment, vintage bottles and containers, and photographs documenting the city's development over time.

Built in 1895, the tower supplied water to Ełk for approximately 80 years before modern waterworks took over this role. Its construction coincided with a period of rapid industrialization when such infrastructure became essential for urban growth.

A library dedicated to German literature occupies space within the tower and represents the region's multilingual heritage. The presence of this collection reflects how communities preserve their distinct cultural traditions within shared spaces.
