Voivodeship and Municipal Public Library in Bydgoszcz, Public library in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
The Voivodeship and Municipal Public Library occupies Rococo-style buildings between the Old Market Square and Długa Street in central Bydgoszcz. The structure houses extensive collections and reading rooms designed to serve different types of readers and interests.
The library was founded in 1778 on the basis of collections from a Bernardine monastery that held manuscripts and printed works from the 15th century onwards. This monastic foundation shaped its development as a regional knowledge center.
The library holds rare books and manuscripts that reflect centuries of regional intellectual life. Visitors can see these special collections displayed in dedicated sections throughout the building.
The location is easily accessible in the city center and can be reached on foot from the Old Market Square. Multiple branches throughout the city offer library services closer to various neighborhoods if needed.
A commemorative fountain called The Well, created by sculptor Karol Kowalczewski in 1909, stands within the library grounds. This hidden artwork adds character to the space and often goes unnoticed by visitors.
