European Bison Sanctuary, Bison sanctuary and zoo in Warnowo, Poland
The European Bison Sanctuary is a wildlife facility in Warnowo dedicated to these large mammals and other forest animals, situated on natural grounds within Wolin National Park. The venue features spacious enclosures filled with vegetation that allow the animals to move and graze naturally.
The sanctuary was established in 1976 to support the preservation of European bison through a breeding program that began with four animals brought from forest reserves in eastern Poland. This foundation set in motion decades of work aimed at maintaining a healthy population of the species.
The sanctuary serves as a place where visitors connect with European bison and learn about their conservation from staff who work with the animals daily. The setting encourages people to think about the role these creatures play in Poland's natural world.
The facility is located in Warnowo south of Międzyzdroje and is open to visitors on weekdays and Saturdays. It helps to check access points before arriving and ask staff about guided tours when you visit.
The sanctuary cares not only for European bison but also rehabilitates injured boars and deer that arrive through various means. This broader mission extends the facility's role beyond housing a single species.
