Sanctuary of the Mother of God of Fatima in Trzebinia, Gothic Revival sanctuary in Trzebinia, Poland.
The Sanctuary of the Mother of God of Fatima in Trzebinia is a neo-Gothic church with pointed arches, colored glass windows, and a central statue of Mary. The building displays the features of this style with rising vertical lines and detailed ornamentation throughout.
Work began in 1910 under monks, but the First World War interrupted construction for many years, and the building was finally completed in 1961. The long time span reflects the political upheavals that affected the region across decades.
The sanctuary centers on devotion to Mary, which became the main focus after the statue arrived in 1962. Visitors notice this emphasis through the central placement of the image and the regular prayers that gather around it.
The sanctuary is located on Główackiego Street and can be reached by public transportation. Night vigils take place on Saturday evenings from May through October, especially around the 13th of each month when larger gatherings are held.
This site once hosted Poland's first retreat center, founded in 1928 for spiritual training and reflection. Among those who came here for spiritual exercises was a student who would later become Pope John Paul II.
