Church of the Holy Spirit in Białystok, Orthodox church in Wysoki Stoczek district, Białystok, Poland.
The Church of the Holy Spirit is an Orthodox church in the Wysoki Stoczek district, distinguished by five domes and modern Byzantine architecture with elements suggesting flames in its design. The brick structure covers more than 800 square meters and accommodates roughly 2,500 worshippers.
Construction started in 1982 after several plans were rejected during the 1970s, with the building finally consecrated in May 1999. This extended planning period reflects the gradual establishment of the Orthodox community in Białystok.
The interior displays frescoes painted by artists from Donetsk, showing saints from the Old and New Testament. These artworks shape how visitors experience the sacred space and tell stories of Christian faith.
Keep in mind that this remains an active place of worship, so respectful behavior is essential during your visit. The best time to explore is outside of service hours, when you can walk through the church more freely.
The iconostasis, or altar screen, is the tallest in all of Poland and dominates the interior with its impressive height. Additionally, the cornerstone contains stones from various religious sites, symbolizing the global connections of this community.
