Jelonki, Warsaw, Residential neighborhood in Bemowo district, Warsaw, Poland.
Jelonki is a residential neighborhood in the Bemowo district that divides into two sections: Jelonki Północne in the north and Jelonki Południowe in the south, with residential complexes and single-family homes in both areas. Połczyńska Street runs through the neighborhood and links it to the rest of Warsaw.
The area emerged in the 19th century as a settlement near Odolany and was shaped by the brick factory of Westphalian businessman Bogumił Schneider, founded in 1846. The factory supplied building materials for Warsaw structures and Russian military fortifications during that century.
The neighborhood was developed following garden city principles, incorporating single-family homes and green spaces throughout the residential area. This planning approach shapes the character of the place and creates a spacious, green living environment for residents.
The neighborhood is well connected to central Warsaw through Połczyńska Street, formerly called Poznań Road. Visitors can explore the area on foot using quiet, green residential streets with good sidewalks.
Schneider's brick factory supplied not just Warsaw but also fortress construction for Russian military defenses along the border. This lesser-known connection shows how a local factory influenced strategic military construction across the wider region.
