Karol Minter Tenement House, Historical tenement house in Praga-Północ district, Warsaw, Poland.
The Karol Minter Tenement House is a three-story building from the 1860s standing at the corner of Sierakowskiego and Okrzei Streets in Praga-Północ. It retains architectural details and design elements characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Warsaw residential buildings.
Architect Józef Orłowski designed the building for Karol Juliusz Minter and it was completed in 1863 as a residential tenement. From 1885 to 1905 it served as a gymnasium, transforming its purpose and becoming part of Warsaw's educational institutions.
The building served as a school for two decades and shaped generations of young students. It remains connected to one of Poland's most important educators who walked its corridors.
The building stands in an accessible neighborhood with good visibility from the surrounding streets. Keep in mind that renovation work is ongoing, which may limit interior access to the structure.
An original school bell from the 19th century still hangs above a window on the first floor corner. This rare artifact remains one of few surviving period objects of its kind in Warsaw.
