Sienkiewicz Mound in Okrzeja

Sienkiewicz Mound in Okrzeja, Historical monument in Okrzeja, Poland.

The Sienkiewicz Mound rises 15 meters high with a base diameter of 45 meters, containing 6000 cubic meters of earth in its structure.

Built between 1932 and 1938, the mound received financial support from Polish communities across Poland and Chicago, gathering 20,000 people at its inauguration.

The mound honors Nobel Prize writer Henryk Sienkiewicz, who was born in nearby Wola Okrzejska and baptized in the local Okrzeja church.

Visitors can climb to the top of the mound to see a 2.7-meter marble statue of Sienkiewicz, installed in 1980.
