Lanckorońska Góra

Lanckorońska Góra is a hill near Lanckorona featuring an abandoned quarry where rock layers are exposed along the western slope. Walking up the trails, you can see different types of stone stacked in distinct bands, each telling part of the mountain's geological story.

The rocks date back to the Cretaceous period, specifically the Cenomanian age, matching similar formations found in Central Italy. These layers were deposited millions of years ago during the formation of the Carpathian Mountains.

The location serves as a natural laboratory for geologists and researchers studying the complex formation patterns of the Carpathian Mountains.

The hill is reachable via marked walking paths that show the different rock layers stacked together. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the trails pass through steep sections and the ground can be uneven.

Blue tints are visible in some rock bands, created by tiny shells of ancient sponges that settled here millions of years ago. These details become noticeable when you look closely at the exposed stone walls.
