Kościół Świętego Krzyża w Szamotułach, Baroque church in Szamotuły, Poland
The Holy Cross Church is a Baroque structure with a single nave topped by a gabled roof and featuring barrel vaults with lunettes running through the interior. The building is constructed of brick and maintains its original architectural layout.
Construction of the church took place between 1675 and 1682, funded by Jan Korzbok Łącki. Franciscan monks arrived in Szamotuły the same year to serve the parish and establish their religious community.
The octagonal chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony inside contains paintings from the early 1700s showing scenes from the saint's life. These religious images remain part of the prayer space where the community gathers today.
The church is open for regular worship services and the parish offers live mass broadcasts online through their website. Visitors can attend in person during scheduled times or participate remotely from their own home.
The interior furnishings in Rococo style from 1759 were crafted by sculptor Józef Eglauer and remain complete and intact to this day. These decorative elements show the refined craftsmanship that was invested in outfitting the newly built structure.
