Church of St. Nicholas in Bejsce

The Church of St. Nicholas is a Gothic building with Renaissance elements, distinguished by a central bell tower constructed in the 18th century. The structure combines brick construction with various architectural styles and shows how it was modified and expanded over several centuries.

The building was founded in the mid-14th century and later received a Renaissance-style chapel modeled after a famous royal example. This addition in the early 17th century significantly shaped how the church appears today.

The interior displays Gothic wall paintings showing biblical scenes that remain visible today. A notable feature is an ornate gravestone of Elisabeth Firlej from 1580 set into the western wall.

The location serves as a religious center for the village and is easily found in the southern part of the country. Visitors should keep in mind that services and active worship times need to be respected when exploring the interior.

Inside are remains of a high-ranking official from the early 19th century, whose heart is kept in a special casket. This unusual burial practice is a rare example of how important people were honored at that time.
