St. Nicholas's Church, Gothic church in Brzeg, Poland
St. Nicholas's Church is a Gothic church building in Brzeg with a three-sided chancel, straight closed side aisles, and two towers framing the main entrance. The structure rises prominently with these towers marking the western facade of the building.
Construction began in 1370 under Master Gunther from Wrocław, with funding from both Brzeg residents and Prince Louis. This partnership between local people and ducal authority shaped how the building was created.
The church holds stone epitaphs from many periods that honor wealthy Brzeg citizens. These markers tell the story of how the town's people chose to remember their dead across the centuries.
The church is located on Kościelny Square in the southwestern part of the old town, with easy access from several surrounding streets. The central position makes it convenient for visitors exploring the historic area.
The church nave displays extreme slenderness relative to its width, a feature of Silesian reductive Gothic architecture. These proportions make it a striking example of how Gothic style evolved in this particular region.
