Kościół św. Mikołaja w Chełmży, Gothic brick church in Chełmża, Poland.

The Church of St. Nicholas in Chełmża is a brick structure built in Gothic style, featuring three naves, a rectangular chancel, and a western tower partially integrated into the main body. The building displays typical brick Gothic characteristics with thick brick walls that define its solid appearance.

The church traces its origins to the 11th century, with early records documented in the mid-13th century. In the early 15th century, it suffered significant damage that affected the main nave's vaulting and required extensive repair work afterward.

The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron of travelers and merchants, reflecting its importance to the local community. The interior preserves medieval baptismal fonts made of granite, which speak to the deep religious traditions of this place.

Visitors should keep in mind that this is an active parish church and access may be limited to certain times or tied to service schedules. It is best to check opening hours in advance or visit during services, when the building is regularly open to worshippers.

The main altar dates from 1612 and depicts the Madonna of the Rosary in Mannerist style, representing a notable work of art from that era. This elaborate decoration stands in striking contrast to the older architectural structure and adds a distinctive layer to the interior.
