Holy Cross Church in Cieszyn, Baroque church in Cieszyn, Poland.
The Holy Cross Church is a Baroque structure in Cieszyn featuring a single nave divided into three bays with Ionian pilasters throughout. The interior concludes in an apse surrounded by adjoining rooms that give the building its distinctive layout.
Construction of the church started in 1709, expanding upon a chapel that existed since 1648. Father Leopold Szersznik led a major extension of the building during 1791-1792.
The church interior contains a Baroque main altar with bas-reliefs depicting the Crucifixion and Last Supper, along with preserved period furnishings.
This remains an active place of worship with regular prayer services throughout the week. Visitors should be respectful of the religious atmosphere and plan their visit accordingly.
The facade displays sculptures of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Joseph with the Christ Child positioned in recessed niches. These figures were deliberately placed as a reference to Emperor Francis Joseph I, reflecting a historical connection to Austrian influence.
