The Zagłębie Museum is housed in two separate buildings: a medieval castle on Castle Street and an 18th-century palace on Gzichowska Street. Five departments covering History, Archaeology, Ethnography, Weapons and Armament, and Art display objects ranging from medieval times to the modern era.
The museum was established in 1956 to commemorate Bedzin receiving city rights 600 years earlier and began in the castle. Over the decades, it expanded its collections and later opened exhibition spaces in the nearby palace to better serve its growing audience.
The collections reflect how weapons craftsmanship and artistic traditions shaped the identity of this coal-mining region over centuries. Walking through the exhibits, you sense the pride local creators took in their work and the skills passed down through generations.
The museum spans two separate locations in town, so allow time to walk between the castle grounds and the palace. The castle sits in the town center while the palace is located just nearby on an adjacent street, making both easy to visit on foot.
