Muzeum byłego niemieckiego Obozu Zagłady Kulmhof w Chełmnie nad Nerem

The Kulmhof Memorial Museum is a history museum located on the grounds of a former Nazi extermination camp in Chełmno nad Nerem. The exhibitions display original objects, photographs, and belongings that belonged to people killed between 1941 and 1945.

The camp opened in 1941 and functioned as a killing center until 1945, where approximately 310,000 Jews, Roma, Poles, and Soviet prisoners were murdered. The museum itself was established in 1990 to preserve the historical record of this place.

The name comes from the former German extermination camp that once stood here. Visitors see a memorial area with Jewish tombstones from the Konin region, preserving the memory of those who died.

The museum is situated in Chełmno nad Nerem and welcomes visitors for self-guided exploration or with arranged tours. It is best to allow sufficient time to reflect on the exhibitions, as the subject matter is emotionally profound.

The site includes the ruins of the palace where prisoners first arrived and the Rzuchowski Forest where mass killings occurred. The forest remains a silent space today, allowing visitors to grasp the physical scale and geography of the camp.
