Most Kamienny w Kaliszu, Stone bridge in Kalisz, Poland
The stone bridge spans approximately 23 meters across the Prosna River and features classical design with decorative patterns throughout. Iron balustrades run the entire length and give the structure its formal appearance.
Construction took place between 1824 and 1825 under Franciszek Reinstein's direction following Sylwester Szpilowski's design. The structure replaced an earlier wooden drawbridge that had previously served the crossing.
The bridge displays the Kalisz coat of arms and Latin inscriptions on its pedestals that reflect local pride in the structure. These carved elements transform the crossing into a place where you can read the city's identity.
The crossing is located on Śródmiejska Street between downtown districts I and II and permits traffic toward the town hall. Vehicles heavier than 20 tons cannot cross this bridge.
It remains the oldest existing bridge in the city and preserves its original cobblestone surface from the construction period. The structure has been protected under national monument status since 1964 and receives ongoing restoration work.
