Jewish cemetery in Żarki

The cemetery covers 1.5 hectares of land in the northwestern section of Żarki, containing over 700 preserved matzevot and obelisks with detailed ornamental designs.

During the liquidation of the local ghetto in 1942, German forces executed approximately 300 Jewish residents within the cemetery grounds, marking a tragic chapter in its history.

The gravestones display a combination of Hebrew and Polish inscriptions, featuring rare symbolic elements such as twelve-pointed stars and candelabrum designs with gryphon head motifs.

The cemetery, situated on Polna Street, remains accessible to visitors throughout the year, though the grounds require additional maintenance and protection from potential vandalism.

Several sepulchral monuments take the form of tomb chests, a structural characteristic rarely found in other Jewish cemeteries throughout the Silesian region.
