Kashubian Ceramic Museum in Chmielno, Ceramics museum in Chmielno, Poland.
The Kashubian Ceramic Museum in Chmielno displays handcrafted ceramic pieces, tools, and objects from three centuries of local pottery tradition in northern Poland. The collection documents the development of this craft through objects from different periods and styles.
The museum was founded in 1993 to commemorate President Stanisław Wojciechowski's visit to Franciszek Necel's workshop in 1923. This founding moment preserves when this family's pottery tradition received national attention.
The Necel family has crafted pottery here for ten generations using traditional patterns such as lilac flowers, tulips, and fish scales. These handcraft techniques shape the appearance of every piece and show how local pottery is lived and passed down.
Visitors can watch potters at work here and participate in ceramic workshops to try the craft themselves. The museum shop offers authentic Kashubian ceramics for purchase.
The museum's basement houses an original kiln from 1954 that is still used today for the first firing of ceramic pieces. This surviving kiln shows how the family has practiced production over many decades.
