Old Mine Science and Art Centre in Wałbrzych

The Science and Art Centre occupies a former coal mining complex with preserved industrial buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The site combines a mining museum with art galleries and exhibition spaces that document the industrial past.

The site originated as the Fuchs mine in 1770 and merged several older mining operations dating back to the 16th century. The mining operation shaped the region for several generations until it closed.

The center reveals how mining shaped daily life and local identity in this region. You can see workshops where miners maintained their equipment and understand the importance of this work to the community.

The complex is structured across different levels and requires comfortable shoes for exploring. Plan enough time to see both underground and above-ground exhibitions thoroughly.

The site preserves the original Julia shaft descending over 600 meters deep, offering a rare chance to go down into actual mining shafts. The preserved machinery and lamps show how miners worked underground.
