Konopków Palace in Wieliczka, 18th-century palace in Wieliczka, Poland

Konopków Palace is an 18th-century structure in Wieliczka with symmetrical facades and a distinctive Polish-style roof featuring projecting central sections. The building sits on an elevated terrace accessed by wide western stairs.

Brothers Jan and Piotr Konopka, shareholders in the salt trading company, built the palace in the 1780s. They later sold the property to the Higher Salt Office.

A memorial plaque on the walls honors Janusz Kurtyka, former president of the Institute of National Remembrance, who passed away in 2010. The inscription reflects how the building serves as a place of remembrance for the nation's history.

The building now houses the headquarters of the Institute of National Remembrance and is not open for public tours. A large storage facility beneath the terrace holds archival materials.

The corners of the building display rusticated stonework, while the western and southern windows feature decorative lion heads and acanthus leaf ornaments. These crafted details are subtle and easy to miss on a casual visit.
