RTCN Trzeciewiec, Radio transmission center in Trzeciewiec, Poland
RTCN Trzeciewiec is a radio and television transmission facility in the small village of Trzeciewiec, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region of Poland. A steel mast standing 320 meters (about 1,050 feet) tall rises above the rural surroundings and carries signals for several radio stations and television channels.
The facility was built in the early 1960s and began operating in 1962, when broadcasting infrastructure was being expanded across Poland. Local communities had pushed for the project since the late 1950s, wanting access to national television and radio.
For many decades, receiving a clear signal from this mast meant a great deal to people in the surrounding villages, who had few other sources of broadcast media. The tower remains a recognizable landmark in the flat landscape of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region.
The site sits in a rural area and is easiest to reach by car, since public transport connections nearby are limited. This is an active broadcasting facility, so access beyond the perimeter is generally restricted.
RTCN Trzeciewiec was among the first facilities in Poland to broadcast two separate radio programs on the same frequency at the same time. This made it a reference point for how radio transmission developed across the country in the following years.
