Witostowice Castle, Medieval castle in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
Witostowice Castle is a medieval fortress in Lower Silesia featuring a five-story square residential tower positioned at its southeastern corner. Small turrets with arrow slits and a brick bastion surround this core structure.
The castle was first documented in 1331 under the Dukes of Ziebice who established it. Major reconstruction occurred during the 1500s when the von Stosch family reshaped much of its structure.
The castle includes a chapel that serves as a branch of the Henryków parish, featuring barrel vaults with lunettes and cross vaults.
The site is accessible when gates are open, though visiting requires checking local conditions beforehand. Walking around the exterior gives a good sense of its defensive layout before attempting to explore the interior.
The castle drew water from tributaries of the Oawa River to fill its surrounding moat, creating a natural water barrier. This arrangement distinguishes it as a water-based defensive structure in the area.
