Castle in Stara Kamienica, Palast in Polen
Castle in Stara Kamienica is a palace with medieval origins built of stone and surrounded by vegetation. The site features remaining walls, a large round tower, and an entrance with stone arches, with the tower being the tallest structure still standing.
First mentioned in the late 1200s, the castle was acquired by the Schoff family in the late 1300s. The structure was rebuilt in Renaissance style in the 1500s, but major fires in 1616 and 1758 destroyed large portions and it was not rebuilt afterward.
The castle served for centuries as the seat of an important noble family and shaped life in the region. Today visitors can experience recreations of medieval life through summer events like fairs and tournaments held at the site.
The site is accessible by car along a mountain road from Jelenia Gora with nearby parking, though the final stretch is steep. Comfortable shoes are recommended as informational plaques are present throughout the ruins and visitors can climb the tower stairs.
Local legend tells of hidden treasure left by knights and a ghost called the White Lady who haunts the ruins on quiet nights. These stories reveal how much the castle has captured people's imagination across the centuries.
