Szancer's mill in Tarnów, Industrial heritage site and immovable monument in Tarnów, Poland.
Szancer's mill is a brick and wooden factory complex situated at the intersection of Kołłątaja and Starodąbrowska Streets. The site comprises a grain mill, cereal processing facility, storage silos, and an industrial laboratory.
Henryk Szancer founded this steam-powered mill in 1846, making it one of the most advanced industrial facilities in the Galicia region. The building survived the major upheavals of the 20th century and remains one of the few surviving examples of industrial development in Tarnów.
The mill represents Jewish entrepreneurship in Tarnów, as the Szancer family developed industrial operations that shaped the region's economic growth. Today it serves as a landmark on a cultural trail dedicated to the city's Jewish heritage.
The complex is located at ul. Kołłątaja 11 and is easy to reach on foot if you are exploring the area. Visitors can photograph freely and explore the outdoor grounds, though the best time for a visit is when daylight allows you to see the architectural details clearly.
This is the only surviving mill building from pre-war Tarnów and was among the first steam-powered industrial operations of its kind in the region. Current plans involve transforming it into a hotel with cultural event spaces, which would give the site a new role while honoring its industrial past.
