Anta da Cerqueira, Neolithic dolmen in Couto de Esteves, Portugal
The Anta da Cerqueira features a polygonal chamber measuring 3.54 meters wide by 3 meters long, constructed with nine stone supports covered by a large slab.
Built between the fourth and third millennium BCE, this dolmen belongs to a necropolis containing eight monuments on the eastern slope of Serra do Arestal.
The central stone support aligns with the east direction, demonstrating the astronomical knowledge of ancient communities regarding solar events like summer solstice.
The archaeological site maintains a complete corridor with eleven stone supports extending 4.4 meters in length, making it accessible for archaeological research.
The capstone covering the chamber measures 3.76 meters wide and 3.26 meters long with an average thickness of 45 centimeters.
