Castelo de Curutelo, Medieval castle in Ardegão, Portugal
The rectangular castle features a central square tower with pyramidal merlons and guillotine windows overlooking the São Cristóvão dos Milagres mountain slopes.
Duke D. Jaime acquired the castle in 1532, commissioning João Rodrigues de Lago to enhance the property after his military service during Azamor's conquest.
The castle includes a chapel dedicated to Santo Amaro, displaying traditional Portuguese gilded woodwork that represents religious architectural heritage.
Vila Galé group plans to transform the castle into a 69-room hotel with two restaurants, event spaces, and pools, scheduled to open in April 2025.
The property spans 57 hectares and will incorporate wine production facilities, creating green wines from its own vineyards starting April 2024.
