Igreja matriz de Loures

Igreja Matriz de Loures is a church building with three naves and a vaulted ceiling supported by Tuscan columns. These columns display brutesco decorations from around 1670, while the altar area features a Baroque altarpiece in the high chapel.

King Afonso Henriques granted this land to the Knights Templar, who built a small chapel in the 13th century. The larger church that stands today was constructed later through renovations and expansions spanning multiple centuries.

The church displays multiple architectural styles in its interior, with Serlian doorways and Manueline chancel elements standing out as particularly characteristic. This blend reflects the artistic shifts that took place within this building over many centuries.
