National Hunting Park of Mafra

The National Hunting Park spans 1,000 hectares of land featuring forests, meadows, and agricultural areas that support diverse wildlife populations.

King John V of Portugal established this park in the 18th century as a designated hunting ground for aristocrats and members of the royal family.

The park forms an essential component of the Royal Building of Mafra complex, which includes a palace, basilica, and monastery from the same period.

Visitors can explore numerous marked trails, observe local wildlife such as deer and wild boar, or participate in guided tours throughout the grounds.

The original stone walls and hunting pavilions remain intact, preserving the authentic layout and structures from its royal hunting ground period.
