Aldeia Típica de José Franco, Ethnographic museum in Sobreiro, Portugal.
Aldeia Típica de José Franco is an ethnographic museum with traditional buildings, mills, and craft workshops arranged throughout a rural setting. The site contains multiple areas with farm animals, traditional tools, and structures representing how people lived and worked in the region.
The project began in 1950 when potter José Franco decided to recreate memories from his childhood by building detailed models of buildings from his area. Over time, the site grew into a full village that preserves how rural life looked in earlier times.
The craft workshops here display how people worked with their hands in this region long ago. Visitors can observe the different trades that kept rural communities running.
Visitors can walk through the various workshops to observe traditional craft techniques in action. The on-site restaurant serves regional food, and there is a cellar where local wines are displayed.
The museum contains mechanical figures that perform daily tasks and show how people worked in this region long ago. These moving models bring the past to life in a way that static displays cannot.
