Igreja Paroquial do Castelo de Sesimbra

The church exhibits 18th-century tiles across its interior walls and stands within the protected walls of Sesimbra Castle overlooking the town.

The construction of the church dates back to 1165, during the reign of King Sancho I, who initiated the building of a Romanesque-Gothic structure.

The church served as the main religious center for Sesimbra's population until the 1950s when a new church was built in Corredoura district.

The church underwent extensive restoration work between 1965 and 2001, resulting in its reopening to visitors at the start of the 21st century.

The building marks nine centuries of religious presence and eight hundred years since the royal charter established the foundations for the church.
