Padrão do Salado, Gothic monument in Oliveira, Portugal

The Padrão do Salado features four carved broken arches resting on columns with carved capitals, crowned by the Portuguese Royal coat of arms.

King Afonso IV commissioned this memorial in 1340 to commemorate the Portuguese victory in the Battle of Rio Salado against Moorish forces.

The monument displays a limestone Norman cross with sculptures of Vincent of Saragossa, Philip the Apostle, Saint Torcato, and the Guardian Angel.

Located in front of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira Church, visitors can find the monument at coordinates 41.4428381, -8.2927895 in Guimarães.

The central Norman cross, gifted by merchant Pedro Esteves in 1342, features Christ on one side and the Virgin Mary under a baldachin on the other.
