The beach was artificially created in 2008 and marked a shift toward developing this coastal area into a recreational space. This transformation reshaped the local landscape for the community.

The area has several restaurants and cafes within walking distance from the water, where visitors can eat and rest. Changing facilities and showers are available, making it easy to enjoy a full day by the shore.
The sand was imported from North Africa and gives the shore a golden color distinct from the volcanic beaches elsewhere on the island. This makes the coastline look different from other parts of Madeira.
