Parque das Termas de Vizela, park in Vizela, Portugal
Parque das Termas de Vizela is a large green space covering about 7.5 hectares filled with trees and plants in the heart of the city. The park features wide pathways, a children's playground, a tennis court, shaded seating areas, and nearby cafes and restaurants.
The park was built in 1885 and 1886, designed and planted by flower grower José M. Loureiro and landscape gardener Jerónimo M. Costa. Their original design and layout continue to shape the park's appearance more than 130 years later.
The park serves as a daily gathering place where locals walk, chat on benches, and spend quiet moments under the shade of trees. This everyday use reflects how the space has become a social hub where people connect with each other and nature away from the busy streets.
The park is easy to explore on foot or by bicycle, with well-maintained paths throughout. Families with children will find playgrounds and open grassy areas, while visitors of all ages can enjoy the shaded spots and seating areas scattered around the space.
The park's name reflects the nearby thermal springs, known for centuries for their healing properties and deeply rooted in local tradition. The space was developed partly to honor this natural resource and give visitors access to the area's geothermal heritage.
