Paço de Calheiros

Paço de Calheiros is a baroque manor house in Calheiros near Ponte de Lima, situated on a hilltop with two prominent towers facing south. The building sits among vineyards and gardens that spread across the Lima Valley landscape.

The Calheiros family settled on this land in the 13th century, and the baroque structure visible today replaced a medieval fortified tower in the 17th century. This shift from a defensive stronghold to an elegant residence shows how the family's position in the region transformed over time.

The place takes its name from the Calheiros family, who have lived here for centuries and shaped the identity of the lands around it. Visitors encounter Portuguese furnishings and objects from different periods that reflect how generations of inhabitants have lived in these rooms.

The estate offers nine guest rooms for up to 18 visitors, with a swimming pool, tennis court, and spa facilities available. Plan to spend time wandering through the vineyards and gardens surrounding the manor house.

The estate produces Vinho Verde wine from organic vineyards beneath the manor house, using Loureiro and Vinhão grape varieties. This onsite wine production connects agricultural tradition directly to the daily life of the place.
