The sanctuary's origins date to 1823 when a statue of the Virgin Mary was discovered in an old mine that served as shelter for a hermit.
The annual pilgrimage takes place from August 13 to 15, bringing together thousands of worshippers who participate in religious ceremonies and processions.
The sanctuary provides parking facilities and regular mass services, while maintaining pastoral care services for visitors throughout the year.
The procession features Portugal's largest processional platform, carried by 80 men during the main festivities in August.
