Capela de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, 16th century Catholic chapel in Leiria, Portugal
The sanctuary sits on Monte de São Gabriel, featuring a gallery with seven arches and a grand staircase leading to its entrance point.
The chapel was constructed in 1588 following reports of a miracle when an invalid woman named Susana Dias regained her ability to walk.
The interior walls display polychromatic tiles from the 17th century depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary and Saint Gabriel.
Visitors can access the chapel Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and weekends from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
A baroque staircase with 162 steps, built in the 18th century, leads to a 16th-century statue of Saint Michael with views of Leiria.
