Badoca Safari Park, Safari park and zoo in Santiago do Cacém, Portugal.
Badoca Safari Park is a wildlife park in the Alentejo region, south of Santiago do Cacém, where giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and ostriches roam large open areas. The grounds are divided into several zones that visitors can explore on foot or by vehicle, depending on the section.
The park opened in the 1990s and was the first in Portugal to keep animals in large open enclosures rather than traditional cages. It established the safari concept in western Europe and shaped how wildlife tourism developed in the Alentejo.
Feeding sessions take place regularly throughout the day, with keepers explaining the habits of each animal to visitors gathered nearby. Families with children tend to linger longest at the open enclosures, watching the animals move and graze at close range.
A visit typically takes half a day to a full day, so arriving early gives you the most time to move through all the zones without rushing. The grounds have dining areas and picnic spots, so there is no need to bring food from outside.
The park offers a VIP safari experience where guests eat a picnic inside a fenced savanna area while the animals roam nearby. This option is separate from the standard visit and can be booked directly at the park.
